Heat Pump Fault Finding – Even on a Family Break πŸ˜‚

I promise I was meant to be taking a proper break with the family, but sometimes you spot something and can’t quite ignore it.
The pool was cooler than expected, and there was very little movement in the water. With a heat pump system, poor water movement is always worth looking at because flow is one of the most important parts of efficient heat transfer.
After a quick bit of fault finding, the issue was traced back to low water levels allowing air to be drawn into the pump.
Why water flow matters on heat pump systems
Whether it is a swimming pool heat pump, an air source heat pump, or a heating system at home, flow is essential.
If the heat pump cannot move water properly, it cannot transfer heat efficiently. Poor flow can lead to reduced performance, poor heating output, system faults, higher running costs, and unnecessary strain on components.
In this case, the issue was not a major failure. It was a basic flow problem caused by low water levels and air being drawn into the pump.
It is a good reminder that heat pump fault finding should always start with the basics:
Is there enough water in the system?
Is the pump moving water properly?
Is air being drawn in?
Are filters or strainers blocked?
Is the system flowing enough for the heat pump to operate?
Heat pump fault finding in Exmouth and East Devon
SAFEXE LTD Gas, Plumbing & Heat Pumps carries out heat pump fault finding, heating diagnostics, plumbing, boiler installations, air-to-air systems and energy-efficient heating upgrades across Exmouth, Exeter, Sidmouth, Ottery St Mary, Budleigh Salterton, Honiton, Topsham, Woodbury, Lympstone, Newton Poppleford and surrounding East Devon areas.
We work on heating systems properly, looking at the full system rather than just the appliance. With heat pumps, that is especially important because pipework, flow rates, pumps, emitters, controls and system design all affect performance.
Finance is available on selected installations.
0% VAT is available on qualifying energy-efficient heating installations, including eligible heat pump and air-to-air system installations.
