A fault visit on a Nuaire MRXBOX MVHR (mechanical ventilation with heat recovery) unit in Exeter city centre. The main problem: the filters were heavily blocked. And the original installers had never shown the occupants how the system works or what basic maintenance it needs.
We see this a lot. The unit gets fitted, but if it isn’t commissioned, explained and maintained, it won’t do its job.
What MVHR does (and doesn’t)
It takes stale, damp air out of bathrooms and the kitchen and brings fresh, filtered air into bedrooms and living rooms, recovering heat from the outgoing air. It isn’t air conditioning and won’t cool a room. Blocked filters mean less airflow, more noise, worse heat recovery, and damp and stale air hanging around.
We checked the unit, advised new filters, explained to the occupants how it works, and talked about recommissioning later if the airflow needs measuring and balancing. See our MVHR and ventilation page or book an MVHR service.
