Over the years, every central heating system collects sludge and magnetite in its radiators, pump and pipework. These photos show what that looks like: a pump clogged with sludge, copper pipe narrowed by build-up, and a thermal image of a radiator hot at the top and cold at the bottom, the classic sign.
What a power flush does
We connect a flushing machine and use cleaning chemicals to push the debris out, working through each radiator in turn. Then we refill with inhibitor to protect the system.
- Radiators heat evenly again and warm up faster.
- Less strain on the pump and boiler, and fewer breakdowns.
- Clean water for a new boiler to start on.
It’s most worthwhile on older systems, systems with cold spots, and before a new boiler goes in. Power flushing is from £900 inc VAT. See power flushing and boiler installation.
